Freemasonry in Kosovo
There is no proof of existence of masonic Lodges in Kosovo, prior to 2014. There are signs suggesting that during the times of the Ottoman Empire (prior to 1912), in some cities in Kosovo there were fraternities that functioned based on Masonic rules, to date there is no proof of a Masonic Lodge being established in Kosovo, during the Serbian/Yugoslav occupation (1912-1999).
In June 2014, thanks to the support of the Grand Lodge of Albania, Dardania Lodge was established – the first ever regular, well-formed and constituted Lodge in the territory of Kosovo. With its organic growth, both in quantity and quality, in September 2016 and in November of the same year, two new Lodges were established: Ex Oriente Lux and Ulpiana. All three Lodges have been established and have been working until January 2018 under the authority of the Grand Lodge of Albania, which is a regular and recognised by the Grand Lodges of the world, including the United Grand Lodge of England.
In June 2017, these three regular, well formed and constituted Lodges, unanimously decided to begin activities for the establishment of the Grand Lodge of Kosovo.
In August 2017, the three lodges jointly approved a resolution, that underlines the rights of the three Kosovar Lodges to establish their Grand Lodge, in accordance with the Basic Principles for the Recognition of the Grand Lodges as well as the Old Charges.
On 17 February 2018, the Grand Lodge of Kosovo was ritually consecrated and started its work as the only regular Grand Lodge in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
